rose from seventh to second place in Mercer’s 2004 cost of living survey. Tokyo
kept its number one spot as the world’s most expensive city.
South
American cities account for the four least expensive cities worldwide, with
Asuncion, Paraguay taking honors as the least expensive city in the survey.

is three-times costlier than Asuncion, which has an index of 42.7 points.
