Manufacturing giant Smiths Group has launched a worldwide internal jobsite
in a bid to retain skilled staff and save on recruitment costs.
The intranet site will enable the its 33,500 global employees to search for
jobs under their chosen career path, location and company division.
E-mails are automatically sent to registered users when a job matching their
criteria is posted to the site.
It also enables applications to be made online and encourages staff to
recommend a friend for advertised positions.
Smiths’ HR director, Anne Minto, believes the site will ensure staff are
aware of the full range of employment opportunities available within the group.

"Retaining the skills and talents of existing staff is a big issue in
today’s competitive labour market," she said. "We wanted to ensure
our employees could find new challenges and keep their careers forging ahead
without having to leave the group."
The Smiths Group launched a graduate and young persons site earlier this
year called Whatsnext4u.com to attract new recruits from outside the business.
Another site focusing on aerospace engineering roles is due to come online this
summer.
