Mature jobseekers opt for change in industry

Older
workers are more likely than youngsters to switch industries completely when
changing career, according to research.

A
study by consultants DBM has finds 81 per cent of mature workers, aged 56 years
or above, are changing sector with a new role, compared to just 61 per cent of
21-37-year-olds.

The
survey, which analysed nearly 7,000 people in 42 countries, also discovers
changes in job function are more apparent among mature workers who perhaps
surprisingly find more work in the technology and service sectors.

However,
the amount of time taken to find a new job after going through a career
transition increased with age – three months for 21-37 year olds, four months
for 38-56 year olds and 4.4 months for 56 and above.
