The HR chief at McDonald's has been appointed chairman of People 1st, the hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism council.
David Fairhurst, McDonald's UK and Northern Europe HR head, was previously vice-chairman of the sector skills council. Outgoing chairman Don Davenport has become president of the body.
As senior vice-president, chief people officer, Fairhurst brought apprenticeships to McDonald's earlier this year, and said that he would use his position to help build a more skilled workforce across the sector, according to Personnel Today's sister magazine Caterer.
Fairhurst said: "As chairman of People 1st, I will use my experience to accelerate and increase the qualifications available to entrants to the sector so that individuals benefit from the considerable opportunities it offers."
