Jane
Kennedy MP has been appointed minister of state for work at the Department for
Work and Pensions (DWP).
She
replaces Des Browne who has been appointed immigration minister.
Kennedy
was previously minister of state in the Northern Ireland Office responsible for
security, policing and prisons and education, employment and learning.

From
1999 to 2001 she was parliamentary secretary to the Lord Chancellor’s
Department, where she was the first woman and first non-lawyer to be appointed to
ministerial rank in the department.
