Health secretary Alan Johnson last month opened the first of several NHS Plus’ pilot ‘demonstration sites’ that are being set up to look at innovative ways of delivering NHS occupational health (OH) services to the wider business community.

The new £1.57m Centre for Occupational Health and Wellbeing at York Hospital, part of York Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, houses the hospital’s OH department. It is focused on providing “one-stop shop” OH services to currently around 90 smaller businesses, including physiotherapy, psychotherapy and counselling.
Dr Kit Harling, director of NHS Plus, said: “Good health at work is good for everyone and, in today’s environment, providing greater access to health and wellbeing services for NHS staff and businesses in the community is even more important.”
