A nurse is taking the Metropolitan Police to court after waiting five months for a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check to be processed.
The CRB checks, which should only take 28 days to complete, left Sally Powell unable to work and claiming benefits, reports Nursing Times.
Powell has filed a £5,000 compensation claim that argues the delays infringed her civil right to employment as a qualified nurse.

Powell said the situation had undermined her confidence and made her feel “like a terrorist”. She said: “I was unable to work as a registered nurse. That had repercussions on me as a professional as I have to keep up with mandatory training.”
Met Police said its legal experts were looking at the case.
