People in Retail Awards 2008 call for entries

by Personnel Today 22 May 2008
by Personnel Today 22 May 2008

The People in Retail Awards 2008 are gearing up again for this year’s ceremony on October 8 and retailers, hospitality and leisure operators are invited to nominate individuals and teams for the industry’s most prestigious awards event.

With 12 categories to choose from, the People in Retail Awards are the only awards that recognise employees and employers who demonstrate commitment to customers and contribute positively overall to the organisation.

From Employee of the Year and Store of the Year to Responsible Retailer of the Year and Employer of the Year, the categories are open to all businesses in the retail, leisure and hospitality sectors and are totally free to enter.

Now in its third year, the People in Retail Awards present a valuable opportunity to recognise the exemplary work, enthusiasm and commitment of the winners and also generate positive recognition for the winners and the organisations, both internally and externally through media coverage targeted at the company’s public, employees and stakeholders.

The awards consistently achieve positive feedback from those who participate and Clare Barron of Vodafone in Newcastle, who was last year’s Employee of the Year, has found that since winning the award, her confidence has increased in both her work and personal life.

She said:  “Winning the award really raised my profile within my company and was a contributing factor in being awarded the prestigious Vodafone Legend title of the year where the top 100 employees are invited on a holiday of a lifetime and I was lucky enough to visit Hong Kong and Macau. Vodafone Retail has also enabled 12 employees to become practitioners of NLP and I was fortunate enough to be invited on this course as a direct result of my raised profile, due to winning this award.”

Last year’s other winning companies included:  ASDA, Environmentally Friendly Retailer of the Year; Homebase, Training and Career Development Award; ELC, Store Manager of the Year and Lloyds Pharmacy, Customer Initiative of the Year.

The 12 awards for 2008 are:

Team Player, Training and Career Development, Support Team, Customer Initiative, Store Manager – North, Store Manager – South, Online Customer Service Team/Person, Front Line Customer Service Team/Person, Store of the Year, Responsible Retailer of the Year, Employer of the Year and Employee of the Year.

The 2008 judges will include key influencers in the industry including Richard Glanville, Chief Financial Officer, Mosaic Fashions; Richard Smith, Chief Executive, Lloyds Pharmacy; Nigel J L Rothband,Chief Executive, The Retail Trust; Sonia Sharples, HR Director, Poundland; David Russell, Group HR Director, William Hill; Terry O’Brien, Head of Retail, Vodafone and Gordon Rennison, Head of Corporate Affairs, LaSer UK

Closing date is July 14, 2008.
