Jane Higginbottom has been appointed personnel manager at the Manchester office of Masons. She will be responsible for the provision of personnel services, including support staff recruitment and the application of terms and conditions of employment. Higginbottom was previously HR team manager at NatWest.

 

Sara Mackay has joined Capital One as HR director. One of her biggest challenges will be recruiting an additional 1,200 staff. She previously worked for Ventura where she held a similar post and also spent six years working for Whitbread where her roles included personnel director for Pepsi Cola as well as field, head office and regional human resources positions for Pizza Hut.

 

Susan Coss has been appointed HR director of Alltel Mortgage Solutions – a partnership between Alltel and Bradford and Bingley – having joined Bradford and Bingley in 1999. Currently a member of the CIPD and the Institute of Directors, Coss previously worked at Bristol and West for nine years in various managerial roles including business process re-engineering, strategy implementation and head of training and development.

 

Carol Scambler has been appointed by ABN AMRO as HR director for European Equities. She joined from Schroder Salomon Smith Barney where she worked for five years, most recently as head of business support. Her responsibilities included restructuring the HR function in alignment with the operational businesses. Previously she worked at a variety of firms including five years at Allen and Overy and three years at Morgan Stanley. Scambler will take up her post in December.

 

Professor Stephen Watson, currently dean of Lancaster University Management School, is to succeed professor Ray Wild as the principal of Henley Management College.

 

Sarah Richardson moves to VNU Business Online UK as human resources adviser, working directly with HR director Joanne Bulger. Richardson has been with business publisher VNU for almost two years and in her role for the Internet arm will provide HR support for recruitment site newmonday.com

WS Atkins, technology-based consultancy and support service, has made two appointments to its HR division. Chris Marsh joins as HR director for the group’s property services business. He moves from engineering consultancy Eutech where he was HR director. Sue Cooper, head of HR for Atkins’ management and industry business stream steps up to the role of divisional HR director. Cooper has been with the firm since 1994.
