The
owner of mobile phone company Phones 4u, one of the companies leading the
evolution of communication, has banned more than 2,500 staff from sending or
receiving any e-mails.
John
Caudwell believes the ban will save every worker three hours a day and his
business at least £1m a year.
He
said that excellent service requires 100 per cent focus and e-mail was getting
the way. He said he preferred staff to get off their keyboards and get
face-to-face or on the phone to colleagues.
"I
saw that e-mail was insidiously invading Phones 4u so I banned it
immediately," said Caudwell.

Staff
are already banned from using private e-mails at Phones 4u, and the only
internal e-mail still allowed is a morning message from the group’s
headquarters on Stoke-on-Trent.
