Prison Service fails to reach sickness level target

Sickness
levels among prison service staff are among the highest in the public sector.

According
to a report from the Prison Reform Trust, the average staff sickness rate over
the last year was 14.7 per cent,
against a target of 9 per cent.

The
report, A Measure of Success, says that the Prison Service has not
managed to meet its key performance indicator (KPI) on staff sickness since it
was introduced in 1999.

The
Prison Officers Association says sickness levels among prison officers are the
highest in the public sector.
