Productivity hampered by office politics and fruitless tasks

Office
intrigue, internal politics and backstabbing colleagues cost British business
£6 billion in lost productivity, says new research.

Other
findings from the survey by management consultants Square International suggest
that the price of unproductive and poorly managed meetings is almost £11
billion, based on the cost of 63m working days.

The
survey also estimates that £12 billion is wasted by chasing ideas and pitching
for business which are lost causes.

Nearly
half of the managers and executives surveyed said they wasted more than 10 per
cent of their time on fruitless ideas.

Leadership
was identified as the single most important skill needed in business, with
creative thinking rated ahead of financial management and selling skills.
