Refuse
collectors and street cleaners employed by contractors Haringey Accord for the
London Borough of Haringey, are to strike over claims for a flat rate London
weighting of £4,000.
The
Transport and General Workers’ Union refuse collectors and street cleaners will
begin their industrial action with a half-hour stoppage on Thursday, followed
by a one-day strike on Friday and on Monday, and an overtime ban over the
weekend.
Paul
Fawcett, T&G regional industrial organiser said: "It is a sad fact
that living and working in the capital is an expensive business, and costs for
workers are spiralling.
"London
local government workers deserve a decent London allowance, whether they work
for a contractor or are directly employed by the council.

"The
company is now putting pressure on our members not to take part in industrial
action. Our members however are resolute and will be taking industrial action
next weekend in pursuit of their justified claim for a flat rate London
weighting."
