Workers
at a Rolls-Royce engineering factory at Ansty, near Coventry, will stage a
one-day strike next Friday over plans to cut jobs.
Yesterday,
talks collapsed between union officials and management over Roll-Royce’s plan
to transfer 1300 engineering jobs from the Ansty site to Quebec, Canada.
The
Manufacturing, Science and Finance (MSF) Union said workers were being forced
to take action.
“We
need the company to show that it is willing to listen by withdrawing compulsory
redundancies.
We
will continue with more strikes if the management doesn’t come back to the
negotiating table,” said Brian Harris, a MSF union spokesman.
