Sainsbury’s is to recruit another 10,000 staff this year as part of its
three-year expansion plan.
The scheme will see the retailer refurbishing all its UK outlets as well as
improving customer service.
The jobs will be available at stores countrywide in all types of full- and
part-time roles. The company will also recruit staff for its new distribution
depot.
Director of retail HR Nigel Broome said that adding to the 142,000 workforce
is a key priority. "Recruiting high-calibre staff is an essential part of
our plans for growth. Over the year, we will have positions in all areas of the
business and extensive training will be provided as part of our commitment to
delivering great service," he said.
The stores will also be diversifying in what they offer and increasing
non-food services such as the 31 Jeff & Co clothing departments.
"The role of our staff is changing all the time so the skills we are
looking for are different depending on the store. Our training is changing as
we have staff working on fresh food and takeaway food, which require different
skills," explained Broome.
