Schools out as teacher shortage bites

Secondary
schools will be short of 4,000 teachers at the start of the new term, according
to a poll of more than 800 schools.

The
poll by the Times Educational Supplement and the Secondary Heads Association
casts doubt on the official government figure of 2,500.

Further
disruptions to the school year are expected as the Criminal Records Bureau
makes checks on new and transferred staff.
