Service
sector job growth is slowing and the slowdown in manufacturing is continuing,
according to the British Chambers of Commerce.
A
study of 7,182 UK firms showed service firms’ export sales last quarter were
the lowest for a decade. It revealed service sector job growth has halved from
16 to 8 per cent, and the outlook for job growth has fallen 3 per cent to 13
per cent.
Manufacturing
is shedding jobs, with 12 per cent job losses in the past quarter, up from 6
per cent in the previous quarter.
David
Lennan, director general of the British Chambers of Commerce said:
"Circumstances for manufacturers continue to remain dire. [However, the]
results show activity has appeared to steady.
