One
in 10 employees have admitted they are planning to pull a ‘sickie’ this month
as the New Year blues hit the UK workforce.
Younger
staff are the worst offenders when it comes to faking it, with more than a
third of 16-24-year-olds preparing to take some unauthorised time off in
January.
The
poll, conducted by the Consumer Health Information Centre, also found that many
staff will suffer genuine illnesses in the first month of the new year.
According
to the survey the most common ailments include flu (29 per cent) colds (23 per
cent) headaches or hangovers (13 per cent) and stress (12 per cent).
