German
engineering firm Siemens is cutting 2,000 jobs at its mobile phone production
site in Germany.
The
company decided not to renew the workers’ temporary contracts at the Liepzig
site due to the slowing growth in the sales of mobile phone sales.
Siemens claimed
the job losses would be spread across the financial year.
Last year,
the company took up significant numbers of extra production staff to cope with
booming demand from telecoms operators offering customers heavily subsidised
handsets as part of pre-paid calls.
