The benefits of employing mature workers will be promoted in an awareness day held by supermarket chain Somerfield this week, as part of the Government’s New Deal 50-plus initiative.
The Employment Service event, which aims to alert local employers to the benefits of mature employees, will provide businesses with information on how New Deal 50-plus can assist in over-50s recruitment and will highlight the barriers older people face when applying for work.
In addition, Somerfield will share best practice tips with local employers at the event, which is being held at its support centre in Bristol.

Speaking on the benefits of mature employees, Anita Lee, a member of the employment strategy team at Somerfield, said, "More than 16 per cent of our employees are 50-plus. They add to the breadth of our workforce, creating a direct reflection of our customer base and make a valuable contribution to the success of our business."
