Specsavers awarded Alzheimer Scotland contract

by Personnel Today 17 Oct 2011
by Personnel Today 17 Oct 2011

Alzheimer Scotland has awarded Specsavers Corporate Eyecare the contract for provision of eyecare for its 800 staff. Alzheimer Scotland is Scotland’s leading dementia charity.

The Edinburgh-based organisation will be offering staff Optical Care vouchers. These vouchers entitle all staff to a full eye examination and glasses, not just those covered under the current display screen equipment regulations. Alzheimer Scotland has calculated that changing to Specsavers Corporate Eyecare will save them 55.7% on what they are currently paying, for every employee who requires an eye examination and glasses.

‘Alzheimer Scotland can now simply purchase vouchers as required and hand them out to the relevant staff,’ says Dona McLafferty, corporate account manager for Specsavers Corporate Eyecare. The £35 Optical Care voucher covers a full eye examination at any Specsavers store. If glasses are needed, staff can choose a pair from the £45 range, fitted with Pentax single vision lenses with a scratch-resistant coating. Alternatively, the vouchers can be used as a £45 contribution towards other frame ranges or lens options, including designer ranges. Employees who do not require glasses can select a pair of non-prescriptive sun glasses.

Aileen Bradford, PA to the Chief Executive at Alzheimer Scotland, says: ‘As I wear glasses myself, I am aware of the benefits of having comprehensive care. The Optical Care vouchers offer our staff the level of service and flexibility they require from an optician and the organisation benefits from an administratively-simple and cost-effective solution.’

Staff will also be able to benefit from Premium Club vouchers. The vouchers are available free of charge to all companies ordering any combination of Specsavers Corporate Eyecare vouchers and entitle the holder to a £20 discount on all glasses from the £99 range or above. Each employee is entitled to three Premium Club vouchers per year: one for themselves and two for family members. Unusually, these can be used in conjunction with the other vouchers so staff will effectively receive a £65 contribution towards glasses from the £99 range or above.
