Staff at three
steel plants are staging the latest in a series of 24-hour strikes in a dispute
over pensions.
Members of the
Iron and Steel Trades Confederation are involved in the walk-outs today at
Caparo Steel Group plants at Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire; Tredegar, south Wales; and
Wrexham, north Wales.
The second in a
series of weekly stoppages is being held in protest at plans to water down the
workers’ final salary pension scheme.
Eddie Lynch,
the union’s assistant general secretary, saidÂ
the plants have been brought to a complete standstill.
