Tesco
has become the first business to set targets for the recruitment of disabled
people, with an initial intake of 200 new disabled staff planned for the next
year.
The
supermarket giant has signed national agreements with Remploy, the Government’s
agency for getting the disabled into work, and the Shaw Trust, which
specialises in the recruitment of disabled staff. Tesco aims to gain access to
an ‘often-overlooked pool of talent’, while meeting its obligations under the
Disability Discrimination Act.
Under
the agreement, Remploy and the Shaw Trust will be notified of job vacancies and
their advisers will deal directly with Tesco stores.
