MA Human Resource Management ‘Top-up’; MA Human Resource Management; PgDip Learning and Development; MA Learning and Development ‘Top-up’; Certificate in Personnel Practice; Certificate in Training Practice.  Many of TVU’s HR courses are directly linked to the CIPD, including the Certificate in Personnel Practice and the Certificate in Training Practice is run in collaboration with the CIPD. HR is also a component in other undergraduate and postgraduate courses and its MBA is popular with HR professionals.

Founded: 1993 as Thames Valley University, but its roots can be traced back over 140 years.

College CV: Thames Valley University has over 140 years experience in delivering technical and vocational education designed to further the careers of our students. Our Faculty of Professional Studies has developed into one of the largest providers of management education and training in the UK. We achieved university status in 1992, and in 2004 merged with Reading College and School of Arts and Design to form one of the largest institutions of it type in Europe. We have three campuses in Ealing, London, and Slough and Reading in Berkshire.

TVU currently has over 27,000 students who study full time, part-time, by open learning and overseas. Both campuses are well placed for links to businesses along the M4 corridor. Many employers from the Thames Valley area commission TVU to create tailored training and management development programmes, as well as request and accepts students for permanent and temporary positions.

Entry:  Degree-level courses require further education qualifications, while postgraduate programmes usually require professional experience and accreditation in addition to formal academic qualifications. No formal entry requirements are necessary for the Certificate in Personnel Practice and Certificate in Training Practice.

Star academics:  Dr Sandra Oliver is the editor of international journal Corporate Communications; Prof Terry Mcllwee has run the CIPD at TVU since 1979, was chief examiner for 10 years and is on the quality committee for CIPD.
