The clocks have gone back and suddenly it’s dark when you leave work. Employers are being urged to consider the opportunities they have to help their staff escape the misery of an after-dark journey home during National Commute Smart Week, which runs until Saturday 3 November.
Not-for-profit initiative Work Wise UK, which runs the awareness event, wants companies to offer flexible hours and homeworking to staff. It said this would also reduce traffic congestion and public transport overcrowding, making the daily commute more bearable for those workers who have no choice.
