Singer Tom Jones has become the latest celebrity to add his voice to the campaign to keep luxury retailer Burberry’s Welsh factory open.
The Welsh legend has written to Leighton Andrews, the member of the Welsh Assembly for Rhondda Valley, to express his concerns over the proposed closure of the Treorchy plant in March and the loss of 300 jobs.
Jones said: “As a local boy, I know how important this factory has been to the community in the Rhondda. I therefore urge the Burberry management to withdraw their plans to close their Treorchy factory.”

Hollywood actors Ioan Gruffudd, who models for Burberry, and Rhys Ifans have both backed the campaign, together with opera singer Bryn Terfel.
The factory workers are also due to stage a second protest demonstration outside two of the firm’s stores in London’s Regent Street and New Bond Street on 27 January.
