The TUC claims that unemployment in the UK is rising despite
Government figures which show that the number of people claiming unemployment
benefit fell by almost 5,000 in September.
TUC general secretary John
Monks said figures produced by the International Labour Organisation (ILO)
indicate an increase in the number of jobless.
He went on to say that the
official figures don’t take into account the recent terrorist attacks and he
fears more job losses may be on the way.
"These figures don’t take
account of the economic impact of the attacks of September 11. We fear worse to
come, with job losses in sectors such as aviation and aerospace.
"It is imperative the
Government and industry do all they can to stabilise the labour market and
sustain confidence," he said.
