A scheme to recruit more people to the TUC has attracted
more than 30,000 new members since it began three years ago.
Figures from the Cardiff Business School, which has been
monitoring the TUC’s Organising Academy’s progress since it was launched in
January 1998, show the scheme has directly recruited 14,395 workers and a
further 16,622 new union members.
The figures suggest the academy’s 90-plus organisers are
getting better at recruiting, claiming 12,824 new recruits in 2000 alone.
Academy organisers have also helped the TUC to achieve
recognition in 50 different organisations across the country.
