A worker in Nottinghamshire has been awarded one of the biggest payouts for industrial injury in British history. Foundry worker Jeff Smalley was awarded £1.45m after losing both his arms in separate incidents at James Maude & Co in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. He carried on working after losing his right arm in a fall 26 years ago but was severely injured again in a sand-blasting explosion in 2001 and now the 62-year-old has been told he will lose his left arm as well. Georgina Hirsch, Amicus legal director, said: “No amount of money will ever be able to compensate for Mr Smalley’s loss.”
