Unemployment hits 30-year low as employment soars

New
figures show that unemployment in the UK is at its lowest in nearly 30 years.

The
Government’s latest labour market figures also show that growth in employment
continues. There are now 28.35m people in work in the UK – the highest figure
ever recorded, with the figures showing that there are 1.95m more people in
work than seven years ago.

Prime
Minister Tony Blair said: "That means one more person in work every two
minutes since this Government has been in power. But we are not complacent. The
Government will continue to strengthen the New Deal as we move towards full
employment."
