data for the three months ending in October show falls in the working age
employment rate and in the unemployment rate, and no change in the growth rate
in average earnings. According to the Office of National Statistics, the
employment rate for people of working age was 74.6 per cent, down from 74.7 per
cent. There was a fall of 4,000 full-time workers to 20.92 million, but a rise
of 42,000 part-time workers to 7.25 million. The average number of vacancies
for the three months to November was 647,100. There were 2.5 vacancies per 100
