A
new deal on pay, conditions and family-friendly policies for Land Rover workers
has been hailed by the Transport and General Worker’s Union as a benchmark for
industry.
The
offer includes a basic pay increase worth 10.8 per cent over two years, a new
maternity pay scheme that will mean staff will receive full salary for up to 40
weeks and a doubling of paternity provision to 10 days at full pay.
Two
extra service-related holidays plus holiday bonuses of £275 in year one and
£285 in year two have also been negotiated.
Tony
Woodley, the union’s chief negotiator for the car industry, said, "This is
a very good deal indeed and one I believe won’t be bettered in industry this
year. It should now be the benchmark for the industry."
Shop
stewards representing 8,500 workers at the Solihull and Gaydon sites agreed to
recommend the offer to the members in a ballot which will take place in the
next two weeks.
