Jarvis Hotels has introduced an
induction system featuring an "interactive hotel" that has cut staff
turnover and training costs.
Each new recruit sees
an interactive CD-Rom featuring a message from the company chairman and a
guided tour around a virtual hotel.
HR manager Ann Tubby
said the system has cut staff turnover from 69 to 57 per cent. The company has
7,500 staff.
Since the scheme was
introduced three years ago, £216,000 has been saved on the cost of induction
training.
Tubby said, "We
did surveys to find out why people were leaving and found that it was not hours
or pay – it was poor induction and training."
