The
Financial Services Authority has introduced a new whistleblowers hotline and
e-mail service for staff concerned about irregularities in the workplace.
Employees
in the financial sector who suspect any wrongdoing and feel the issues cannot
be resolved internally can now go directly to the industry’s regulator.
FSA
managing director Carol Sergeant said the launch was good news for companies
and professionals in the sector:
"We
strongly encourage employees with concerns to blow the whistle within their
firm at first. However, the FSA is an alternative route for those concerned by
the lack of response and the new telephone line and e-mail address are
available for this purpose. Any information we receive will be treated
sensitively," she said.
