Met Police denies Ghaffur gagging order and out-of-court settlement

The Metropolitan Police Service has denied it has reached an out-of-court settlement with assistant commissioner Tarique Ghaffur over his allegations of race discrimination.

Reports in the Daily Mail claimed that Ghaffur would receive a £300,000 pay out and his full pension. The deal would also include a gagging order, the newspaper said.

However, a Metropolitan Police spokesman told Personnel Today: "Negotiations are at an advanced stage, but as yet they have not been concluded."

In August 2008, Ghaffur launched legal proceedings against the Met for race discrimination.

He was suspended from his duties in September, after which he claimed he was being victimised because of the legal case. The Met said he had been suspended because of his conduct, not because of the case.
