On-line recruitment service Totaljobs.com, which is owned by Personnel Today’s publisher Reed Business Information, has teamed up with legal and taxation publisher Butterworths to introduce an on-line recruitment service for the legal profession called Lawmoves.co.uk.

Company cars go on the virtual lot

e.defined.com/cars is a web site which allows employees to purchase ex-fleet company cars. BT is among the companies to have signed up for the scheme and it has made the service available via its company intranet.

Call centre staff to be trained on the Net

Xerox Europe, the Document Company, is aiming for 50 per cent of its training needs to be conducted via new technology and the Internet by 2001. Its training partnership with e-learning company Skillsoft will provide customer service courses for up to 1,000 Xerox employees who mainly work in the company’s call centres.

Alliance provides a do-it-yourself answer

Financial technology professionals can create their own tailored training solution and deploy it over the Internet thanks to an alliance by independent training company Waters Training and the Online Courseware factory. Trainers can go to the Waters Training web site and download video, text and audio and assemble them into a training programme.

E-commerce access to fast-moving staff

BuyMeForAYear.co.uk is a recruitment service aimed at new media staff, so-called because new media staff tend not to stay in one job for more than a year. Its a messaging service will link e-commerce companies with potential staff and provides chatrooms for virtual interviews.

E-learning and IT and business skills training company KnowledgePool is designing a virtual farm as part of a £1m e-learning training contract for the Scottish Agricultural College (SAC). The contract includes the development of Web-based learning units that will allow postgraduates to study organic farming on-line.
