Facilities company Sodexo and advisory service Cafcass have won the top prizes in this year’s enei awards.

Both employers won two awards each at the Employers Network for Equality and Inclusion’s ceremony, and were awarded Overall Winner status for the private and public sector, after being singled out for successfully challenging discrimination in the workplace.

Take steps to ensure that the workforce is inclusive of people of different religions and beliefs, inclusive of lesbian, gay and bisexual people, and that it is inclusive of transgender people.

Judges praised Sodexo for its diversity and inclusion strategy, and for its efforts to integrate it throughout the business at a global, country and local level. It also received praise for its social media campaign and employee recognition schemes.

In 2009, Cafcass was judged “inadequate” by Ofsted for its diversity and equality policies, and judges remarked how much progress the service has made in the last six years to improve staff training around diversity issues.

Meanwhile, Personnel Today editor Rob Moss presented the award for Team of the Year to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) for its efforts in implementing the Equality Act 2010.

Other companies recognised at this year’s enei awards, held on 14 July at The Law Society, included:

  • North East Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Group, which won Small Employer of the Year;
  • Santander and South East Coast Ambulance Service, which both received the Gold Standard Award for Equality; and
  • Land Registry, which took home the Representative Workforce Award.

The network’s chief executive Denise Keating said: “The enei annual awards recognise the commitment of organisations to achieving diverse and inclusive workplaces, celebrating the teams and individuals who really are making a difference.

“There were over 90 applications for the awards this year and we are delighted that so many organisations are prepared to publicly demonstrate best practice and have been publicly recognised for the innovative work they are doing.”
