PM’s pledge to apprenticeships allows Alliance to give students a well deserved boost

by Personnel Today 3 Feb 2009
by Personnel Today 3 Feb 2009

In the same month Gordon Brown has announced a scheme to create 35,000 extra apprenticeships across the U.K, Alliance Learning have launched further opportunities aimed at encouraging young skill seekers access to their highly successful mentored employment programmes.

To emphasize the importance that the government has placed upon training and apprenticeships, Alliance Learning are now offering young people a little extra cash by claiming a £20 voucher for simply telling Alliance about their new job experiences.

The aim of the scheme is to prompt local employers with younger employees to take advantage of the free training that is on offer and also to promote awareness of the programme in and around the Bolton area.

An inspiring example of the success of this apprenticeship scheme is provided by local learner Eve Williams.

Eve currently trains at the Horwich based training provider, where she is skilling up on all aspects of the 12 month mechanical and electrical engineering apprenticeship.

She is currently working towards an NVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations and technical certificate in Engineering which are part of the apprenticeship framework.

Profiling the advantages the scheme can create, the 16-year-old from Horwich, Bolton said:

“I enjoy learning with Alliance on this apprenticeship – it is brilliant! There are so many opportunities. I like the fact you can take your time and you’re not rushing around like you are at school.”

A typical day at Alliance is quite interesting, you are never bored, there’s always something to do. It’s a cool place, without being biased, I do enjoy it! It’s one of them places where you need to be interested in mechanical and electrical engineering to appreciate it.”

Eve continued:

“I would recommend studying an apprenticeship at Alliance Learning because you are learning a trade whilst doing actual hands on work. You also learn useful skills that you can use in everyday life, for example, something simple but as important as wiring a plug!

“With a difficult economic time ahead, I am positive this training will lead to me fulfilling my ambition of finding a successful career in engineering.”

Eve’s insight is a shining example of how potential learners can engage with the apprenticeship promotion.

Alliance Learning is also asking employers to encourage their staff to claim their voucher and would be only to happy to visit your business to discuss the apprenticeship programme in more detail.
