China revises employment regulations

China’s State Council has recently issued implementing regulations for China’s Employment Contract Law, which came into force on 1 January 2008, providing much-needed guidance for employers on the extent of their new legal obligations.

Among other things, the regulations clarify the circumstances in which employees who have been on fixed-term contracts are entitled to be employed on open-ended contracts, as well as the rules for terminating such contracts.
