Workers are finding themselves unable to switch off from their day job and are becoming fanatical when it comes to checking emails outside office hours, according to research by insurer PruHealth and wellbeing programme provider Vitality.
One worker in eight admitted to tapping away just before they went to bed and more than 750,000 people even checked their inbox while on the loo.
Almost half of the respondents said that they felt their stress levels had increased in the past 12 months and a further 49% were doubtful that these levels would ever improve in the future.

In a separate study, the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy has warned that people are risking their mental and physical health by working on smartphones, tablets and laptops after they have left the office.
Poor posture in these environments could lead to back and neck pain, the online survey also found.
