CIPD chief Orme to share her vision for future of HR at HR Directors Club event

New Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) chief executive Jackie Orme will be speaking at an exclusive HR Directors Club networking dinner next month.


Orme joined the CIPD back in April after many successful years at PepsiCo in an appointment that shocked many in the HR community. Now just a few months into the job, delegates at the networking dinner will have the chance to hear about Orme’s vision for the HR profession, what role HR must play in organisations in the future, and the big issues that will define the UK workplace in the coming years. There will also be an opportunity to quiz her on the role of the CIPD and how it serves senior HR directors.


Speaking ahead of her appearance at the HR Directors Club, Orme said dealing with economic turbulence wasn’t the continuing challenge facing the profession. “Skills shortages will be far more enduring than short-term increases in job losses. The ‘talent crunch’ will be a longer-lasting challenge for HR than the credit crunch,” she said.


“Demonstrating how to identify, attract, retain and motivate talent will deliver far more for the future of the profession than cowering in the corner worrying about whether we can justify our worth during troubled times. Yes, we need to play our part in cutting costs and maximising revenues during turbulent times, but delivering people strategies that will position our businesses to profit from the recovery – that’s where we add real value.”
