Network Rail extends partnership with Bupa to enhance employee heath services

by Personnel Today 9 Apr 2008

Network Rail has extended its partnership with Bupa Wellness in a new three-year deal, which will provide the rail company’s 34,000 staff with an enhanced range of occupational health and wellbeing services.

Under the new deal, Bupa will carry out health checks which are statutory requirements for Network Rail staff.

These include routine periodic track safety and signaller medicals, drug and alcohol screening and health surveillance for night workers, staff exposed to noise or those at risk of hand-arm vibration syndrome.

Bupa will also continue to provide Network Rail with sickness absence management services, return to work and review assessments and regular information to track health trends across their workforce, helping the company plan health intervention activities to reduce staff absence and improve performance.

Commenting on the success of the relationship, Bupa’s Simon Thompson said: “We are very pleased to be re-appointed by Network Rail and look forward to continuing to work in partnership with its management and employees.

“All members of our clinical team working with Network Rail undergo a special familiarisation programme to ensure they understand the railway working environment. This enables them to give the most appropriate, tailored health and wellbeing advice to the rail company’s employees.”
