TUC launches new union affiliation facility on Facebook

Trades Union Congress (TUC) has launched a new application on Facebook in an effort to network activists or promote campaigns on the social networking site.

My Union enables members to place their union badge onto their Facebook profile. The application holds badges for the 59 unions that are affiliated to the TUC.

The union plans to make the application available to unions in other countries in an effort to drive the global scope of trade unionism.

“This is the modern equivalent of the union pin badge,” said Paul Nowak, TUC national organiser. “A number of unions are reaching out to members using new web technologies, and this will help them to organise online, and raise the profiles of their unions in an environment popular with prospective members.”
