Charity Counsel and Care has repeated its call for tax exemptions to be extended to care vouchers to help employees with caring responsibilities pay for support.
The charity wants chancellor Gordon Brown to announce the move in today’s Budget.
In May, a coalition of charities, employers and voucher providers will publish the findings of an economic analysis on the cost-benefits of care vouchers.
Stephen Burke, chief executive of Counsel and Care, said: “Many carers struggle to work and others simply can’t work.

“Extending tax exemptions from childcare vouchers to care vouchers would help carers and those they care for to buy in extra care and support. It would help employers retain staff and boost the economy by enabling older workers and women to work.”
A growing number of employers, charities and carers are backing the campaign for tax breaks on care vouchers, with more than 4,000 people signing a petition on the No.10 website.
