This book offers information and advice to managers on creating and maintaining an effective disaster plan. It is well-written and aims to be an easy handbook for a complex and constantly evolving subject.


The book is split into seven chapters, with the first looking at many of the predictable and unpredictable threats we face today.


The book then takes us through how to produce a disaster plan, looking at who should be involved, what data is needed to write it, and how it should be communicated and kept up to date.


It examines the main issues and challenges that will arise should the plan need to be implemented, and it includes a practical guide on dealing with incidents such as terrorism and pandemics.


Later in the book, there are chapters on how to manage the aftermath and maintain business continuity. There is also a summary of legislation affecting emergencies. The book includes two helpful appendices with a good template of a disaster plan that can be adapted, and some useful contacts and website addresses.


This book would be a very useful guide for any HR (or other) manager who has been asked to become involved in disaster planning or devise a disaster plan for their organisation.


As most large organisations already have teams dedicated to disasters or have complex plans in place, this book would probably be of most relevance for those in small to medium-sized organisations.
