The issue of positive discrimination is always a hot potato (Personnel Today, 7 February). There appears to be an increasing trend where white men are being deselected from recruitment processes or from succession planning because organisations are trying to enforce a balanced workforce policy.
Any organisation, let alone the police force, must select on merit alone.
I experienced age discrimination with a former employer and was deselected for a role because I did not fit the ethnic/gender balance policy.
Why not make selection a blind process by having all references to name, gender, age, religion and ethnic background removed from CVs to make recruitment as fair as possible?
