Nurses lag behind police in public sector pay stakes

A newly qualified nurse’s salary is almost £4,000 less per year than that of a new police constable despite training for longer, government figures show.

The annual survey of NHS staff earnings in England, published last week, shows D-grade nurses earned an average basic salary of £18,000 in August last year after three years’ training.
