Scots Army pins recruitment hopes on new badge

by Michael Millar 18 Aug 2005
by Michael Millar 18 Aug 2005

The Army in Scotland has unveiled the emblem of its new ‘super regiment’ and hopes it will be the key to turning around a slump in recruitment north of the border.

The Army hopes that the new badge will be the first step in establishing the identity of the Royal Regiment of Scotland and will encourage people to join after a protracted period of uncertainty over the fate of the various Scottish regiments.

However, major general Loudon, the colonel commandant of the Scottish Division, admitted that present recruitment difficulties were not just down to uncertainty over the future of the regiments.

“You can’t pretend that the recruiting environment is benign, but that is not solely because of the formation of the new regiment,” he said.
