Confidence belies reality on roll-out of NHS pay system

by Mike Berry 14 Jul 2005
by Mike Berry 14 Jul 2005

Four in five HR directors in the NHS are confident about successfully implementing the Agenda for Change pay system, according to a poll by Health Service Journal.

However, directors’ optimism continued to contrast with the reality of current achievement – a third of those polled said they had assimilated less than one-quarter of their workforce, a further third less than half the workforce, and just under a third said they had moved more than 50% of employees on to the new pay structure.

All NHS Trusts are meant to have assimilated 100% of staff onto Agenda for Change by the end of September.

Earlier this year Andrew Foster, NHS HR director admitted that the health service will miss this deadline. Speaking exclusively to Personnel Today, Foster said if the “vast majority” of work is done by the end of September, then he would be happy.

The poll questioned 60 HR directors working in the NHS.
