This month’s training news in brief

by Personnel Today 1 May 2005
by Personnel Today 1 May 2005

Financial compliance

The Financial Services Skills Council (FSSC) is seeking feedback on its new draft industry performance standards for compliance and the prevention of money laundering. The FSSC is looking to develop a qualifications framework, although formal qualifications are not a mandatory requirement for compliance staff, and there are no agreed industry standards in this area. A copy of the consultation document, Safeguarding Business Integrity, can be downloaded from the FSSC website. The consultation period ends on 31 May.

Board-level rumpus

Senior managers have been warned that organisations should review their criteria for recruiting and appraising board directors. “Some companies put more effort into recruiting graduates than board members,” chief executive of Roffey Park John Gilkes told delegates at a conference at the research organisation. He said that new board members should have the ability to challenge and hold an affinity with the organisation’s culture and values. Roffey Park’s next conference will be the Organisational Development Conference 2005 on 18-20 May in association with Personnel Today.

Look out for the June 7 edition of Training Magazine, where Denise Milani, deputy director of the diversity directorate at the Metropolitan Police Service gives an exclusive interview on the new personal development training programme for women employed by the police service. Elsewhere in the June issue, we cover the latest insights into international management.

Dramatic blend

In the latest twist to what components constitute blended learning, CentreStage Partnership and Headline Training are combining e-learning and live drama. The initiative combines tailored e-learning modules, instructor-led training and forum theatre. The characters and actors used in the interactive e-Learning modules also participate in the live forum theatre workshops.
